About Us
About The August Project:
The August Project is a philanthropy that engages in strategic partnerships and storytelling to do good, better. We create one of a kind products that fund on the ground projects in Haiti while also elevating the stories of Haitians and the Haitian diaspora.
We are a global impact organization that currently operates in Leogane, Haiti and New York City, New York.
About the Approach:
The August Project holds steadfast that a multi-lateral approach to the alleviation of poverty is the answer. Capacity building and community engagement is at the center of our approach while we address the following aspects that maintain poverty: access to clean water, access to education, more stable infrastructure, access to healthcare and a stable economy. We engage with local stakeholders to understand their specific experience and create solutions based on their reports, local resources and precedent. When we say we do good, better, we mean we take the concept of “doing good” and systematize it so that it is impactful to the communities served. Our mission is to alleviate poverty worldwide so that the all people are able to fully live the human experience.
About the Founder:
Ruth Jean-Marie is the Brooklyn born child of Haitian immigrants. Having graduated from NYU with a Master of Science degree in Global Affairs, she has dedicated her life to helping citizens of underdeveloped countries improve their communities in systematic ways while also consulting with stakeholders to do more efficient and impactful work.
Our Programs
Our Programs
In addition to consulting, we host a myriad of targeted programs that are catered to the specific issues of poverty on the ground in the countries we serve. Additionally, we determine what capacities need to be built and what resources are available in order to advise and implement sustainable solutions to communities.
innovation workshops
Our innovation workshops invite participants to gain a better understanding of development and capacity building. Innovation workshops in NYC focus on greater understanding of philanthropic work, while the international workshops focus on brainstorming solutions to the specific factors to poverty in their communities.
The August Salon
The August Salon is a monthly community building series. Members of the Haitian community and their friends gather to share their stories related to being Haitian. The goal is to strengthen ties, memorialize stories and increase understanding.
haitian narrative project
We understand the importance of storytelling and how image can be monetized. Knowing a people’s story creates connection. The Haitian Narrative Project collects the stories of Haitians worldwide to share, to humanize and to create income for their communities.
Haitian Literacy project
