Toussaint L’ouverture was enslaved at birth and later rose to the status of general and leader of the Haitian Revolution. Considered the father of Haiti, L’ouverture led the first successful slave rebellion and established an independent Haiti in 1797. Asserting, “I was born a slave but nature gave me the soul of a free man” L’ouverture did not live to see the final establishment of independence in 1804.

A portion of the profit from the sale of this item will be donated to TAP’s coffee table book project titled, Stories of Movement. This project seeks to highlight the objective and honest experiences of Haitians in Haiti and the Haitian diaspora.
